Two Iowa High School Trades Teachers Win National Award for Teaching Excellence

(Iowa) — Two Iowa high school teachers are receiving national recognition.

Chad Donahue, a welding teacher at Des Moines Public Schools’ Central Campus, and Grant Engel, a construction teacher at Central Lyon Community School District in Rock Rapids, have been named winners of the 2026 Harbor Freight Tools for School Prize for Teaching Excellence.

The award includes a $75,000 prize for their schools’ programs. Prize winners include teachers who focus on teaching a variety of skilled trades. Donahue and Engel are among 25 winning teachers from 18 states. A total of $2 million dollars will be awarded through this year’s awards…
