Classes at Durham’s Hillside High cancelled after HVAC breaks during heat wave

The late-summer heat wave forced an abrupt end to the school day at Hillside High School in Durham.

Students were dismissed at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday after the building’s HVAC system broke under the extreme temperatures in the Triangle. Temperatures climbed to 95 degrees in Durham with a heat index of 104.
