Richmonders rate city highly as a place to live in new community survey

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A new survey showed most residents are satisfied with the city of Richmond, despite affordability and infrastructure concerns.

On Friday, May 22, the Office of the City Auditor (OCA) released its 2026 National Community Survey, developed by the National Research Center at Polco. The city-led survey randomly selected households to ask about residents’ quality of life, economy, safety, education and culture. The survey is a strategic management tool to help city leaders better understand residents’ perspectives and identify areas of strength and room for improvement.

The City’s prior National Community Survey was conducted in late 2021, with the results issued in 2022. Of the 3,932 households that received the survey, only 268 completed it, providing an overall response rate of 7%.
