Cohoes man indicted for allegedly placing suspicious device in park

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A grand jury indicted a Cohoes man on Monday for allegedly placing a suspicious device in a local park on May 16. The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Brandon Arsenault, 26, pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree placing a false bomb or hazardous substance.

Police responded to Colonie Mohawk River Park after a report of a suspicious item in the playground’s “Little Library” book nook. Through an investigation, the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit discovered the device was inoperable.

The FBI assisted with the investigation, and Arsenault remains in Albany County Jail. The DA’s office added that the potential sentence for placing a false bomb or hazardous substance is seven years in prison.
