More than 1,400 acres of land in Clay County will now be part of the Talladega National Forest, after a group was able to secure the land and turn it over to the U.S. Forest Service.
The Conservation Fund, a national land trust and acquisition group, announced that it had secured 1,446 acres of land along the southern boundary of the Talladega National Forest. The additional land will help strengthen and preserve wildlife habitat along the Pinhoti Trail, an extension of the Appalachian Trail.
“This project expands access to one of Alabama’s most treasured outdoor landscapes while protecting the natural resources that make it so special,” said Stacy Funderburke, vice president of the central Southeast region at The Conservation Fund, in a news release…
