Rate increases proposed in Ohio by three FirstEnergy electric companies

The Illuminating Company, Ohio Edison, and Toledo Edison, all FirstEnergy Corp. electric companies, filed their first three-year rate plan on May 22 with Ohio regulators outlining projected distribution rate increases across all three utilities beginning in 2027 to fund grid upgrades and service reliability.

“At a time when so many customers are carefully managing household and business expenses, we understand how important it is to provide reliable service while keeping bills as manageable and predictable as possible,” said Torrence Hinton, president of FirstEnergy Ohio.

The plan, filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), supports strengthening the electric system to improve reliability and would provide customers with more predictable rate changes, according to a FirstEnergy statement released Monday…
