Inmate from ‘25 New Orleans jailbreak gets life sentence for murder

One of the 10 men accused of breaking out of the Orleans Justice Center last year, setting off a multi-state manhunt that endured for months, was sentenced to life in prison without parole Thursday for killing a man during a 2021 shootout.

Lenton Vanburen, 27, stood before Criminal District Judge Robin Pittman five weeks after she ruled him guilty of second-degree murder in the Nov. 29, 2021 killing of Aurrel Brown Jr. of New Orleans, in a bench trial.
