RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Data centers can no longer be approved in the city of Reno after the city council Monday formally adopted a temporary moratorium and began the process to adopt rules regulating the burgeoning and controversial industry.
By a 6-1 vote, council members voted to finalize the moratorium, which runs through August 31, 2027. It does not affect already permitted data centers, including the one under construction on Keystone Ave.
Under the resolution, the moratorium cannot be lifted unless new data center regulations have been adopted and are in effect, and city officials determine that ending the moratorium would not harm public health, safety or welfare…
