A fragment of land the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority will sell to the city of Toledo is so tiny that several port directors laughed when they voted to approve the transaction.
But the 0.0061 acre near Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza that the board of directors approved last week is a vital bit of a multi-use path the city plans to connect a similar path along the Anthony Wayne Trail with Middlegrounds Metropark and the Riverside Trail.
The 0.91-mile path, scheduled for construction next year, will be 11 feet wide and follow mainly Emerald Avenue, which runs past MLK Plaza — Toledo’s Amtrak and Greyhound station — on its way from the Trail to an intersection with Williams, Morris, and Ottawa streets.
