MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall on Monday issued a statement opposing any grant of clemency for death row inmate Jeffery Lee, who was convicted in the 1998 killings of two people at a Dallas County pawn shop.
In his statement, Marshall cited the December 12, 1998, shootings at Jimmy’s Pawn Shop in Orrville, where prosecutors said Lee killed Jimmy Ellis and Elaine Thompson and wounded a third person.
According to court records referenced by Marshall, Lee confessed to the crimes, was identified by a surviving victim, and was captured on surveillance footage during the attack. Marshall noted that multiple courts have upheld Lee’s conviction and death sentence over the years.
