Birmingham mayor makes statement on data center ordinance passing

Despite major pushback from community members, Birmingham City Council passed a data center ordinance that gives the greenlight to local centers being built.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin released a statement on social media afterwards, acknowledging the pain of the people who fought against the ordinance, but also highlighting what it can do for the city.

Woodfin highlighted the mandatory regulations the city put in place, which the mayor says makes Birmingham the city with the strongest data center regulations in the southeast. These regulations include mandatory buffers from residential areas, full disclosure on build-out plans and a complete ban on fossil fuels…
