One of the items on the June 18 agenda of the Carson City Board of Supervisors is a resolution declaring Halloween to be on Friday, Oct. 30, due to the Nevada Day holiday on Saturday, Oct. 31.
During this century, Halloween has been celebrated on Oct. 31. Before 2000, the Nevada Day Parade was always on Oct. 31 — the anniversary of the state’s admission to the union and Halloween.
In order to keep children out of the way of any drunk revelers on Nevada Day, trick-or-treating was moved to Oct. 30 by the Carson City Board of Supervisors.
