UPDATE Norwood: Emotionally Disturbed Patient Picks Up Knife inside Montefiore ER

A patient reportedly grabbed a knife while inside Montefiore’s ER department on Tuesday, June 16, according to the NYPD but the incident resulted in no injuries.

A police spokesperson said that at around 12.51 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to Montefiore Medical Center ER, located at 111 East 210th Street in Norwood [the ER faces Bainbridge Avenue] for a report of an emotionally disturbed person (EDP) with a knife in his hand.

The spokesperson continued, saying, “At 12.57 p.m., there was a transmission that said that the EDP no longer has the knife and that everything was under control.”

The spokesperson went on to say that the description of the incident was that the person had a “medical episode” and grabbed the knife inside the hospital and then either put it down [or it was taken from him] and the emergency call was cancelled. He said the person was later taken into custody.

When Norwood News later asked for clarification as to whether the person was taken into custody for picking up the knife or potentially for a separate matter, another police spokesperson said that if someone is taken into custody, it doesn’t always necessarily mean they are being arrested…
