PERRYSBURG – There was a golf outing on June 8 unlike any other. Oh, the object was still to get the little white ball in the cup, but the reason for being on the links was a first: to raise funds to allow people who’ve lost a loved one to get the counseling they want and need.
The Monarch Grief Center hosted its inaugural Monarch Open Golf Outing that day at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg. After a noon lunch, the scramble event teed off at 1 p.m. with 52 golfers in 13 foursomes.
Monarch Grief Center is a nonprofit providing professional, compassionate grief support to those who need, as it says on its website, “a place to turn so they feel less alone in their grief journey.”
Few want to admit they need help because “it’s kind of a taboo subject,” said Amy Rowe, cofounder and grief counselor, about seeking grief counseling. She said there are those who can get by in their own time and move on, but for the ones who are struggling, the center is available to them…
