Hanahan Mayor Christie Rainwater defends role in 2022 land sale before ethics panel

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) — Hanahan Mayor Christie Rainwater spent Thursday defending her actions before a South Carolina State Ethics Commission panel as commissioners considered whether she violated state ethics laws during a 2022 land transaction involving city-owned property on Yeamans Hall Road.

The hearing focused on Rainwater’s involvement in the deal after a commission for Carolina One Real Estate was left off the closing paperwork. At the time, Rainwater was serving as mayor while also working as a Realtor with Carolina One.
