As furniture prices and other household costs continue to strain family budgets, dozens of people are showing up to a warehouse in Williamsburg in search of something many say they can’t afford to buy new– furniture.
The giveaway, known as “Free Furniture Friday,” is run by Alisha Self, owner of the Newport News franchise of College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving. The effort keeps usable furniture out of landfills and now draws 50 to 75 people at a time.
