Toledo leaders, survivors search for ways to prevent gun violence

TOLEDO, Ohio — Behind every statistic is a name, a family and a story that continues long after the headlines fade.

That was the message Thursday night as Toledo leaders, advocates and survivors gathered at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library for a Gun Violence Awareness Month panel discussion focused on the impact of gun violence and ways to prevent future tragedies.

The conversation came weeks after the Old West End Festival shooting, where 12 people were injured, and amid continued discussions about violence across the city. So far in 2026, Toledo has seen 11 homicides. Six of them have been confirmed as shootings…
