To the editor: Measuring cost for Mission Project

On Thursday a reader was praising the Mission Project that taxpayers will be shelling out $21 million to provide 65 housing units for the chronically homeless. Zillow in 2026 has the Toledo average of buying a home at $130,000.

So here is an idea: Spend the same amount of money and buy 161 area homes for the same cost. No construction, no delay. Or just overpay each home seller and offer $323,000 for their $130,000 home to keep it at 65 units.

They’ll be out tomorrow, the “chronically homeless” can move in the next day, and we can do it all again when the next 65 “chronically homeless” show up in line for their home the day after that…
