Alabama appeals court rejects latest bid by death-row inmate in Decatur Krystal killings

DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has denied the latest appeal from Jordaan Stanly Creque, an inmate on Alabama’s death row convicted in the 2011 robbery killings of two Krystal employees in Morgan County.

In a decision released Friday, the court upheld a lower court order dismissing Creque’s post-conviction petition, finding his claims were either not properly supported or without merit.

What the ruling says

The appeals court agreed with the Morgan Circuit Court’s summary dismissal of Creque’s Rule 32 petition for post-conviction relief. The opinion says many of Creque’s arguments centered on claims of ineffective assistance of counsel, but the court found those claims did not warrant relief.

The court also pointed to earlier rulings in the case, including decisions that found Creque’s confession was voluntary and properly admitted at trial.
