Goats removed from Lexington green space project ahead of more rain

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Organizers of a goat-grazing project in Lexington are moving their herd out of the area Friday ahead of additional rainfall.

The goats had been grazing at Vaughns Branch and Creek, where they were brought into clear invasive plants as part of an effort to create a community green space. With heavy rain earlier this week and more expected, organizers decided to return the animals to Capstone Farms in Henry County on Friday, June 26.

Rain seen as opportunity, not setback

Project Manager Paula Singer said the rainfall is not necessarily a setback for the project’s larger goals.

“During the last few days, we have had terrible flooding here,” Singer said. “If we could plant native plants and grasses and shrubs, that water that runs off into the creek will be filtered by those native plants. It will not only beautify the area but help keep the creek clean.”
