(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The Teller County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) is reminding the public on Monday, June 29, that with almost 50,000 acres of fire in Colorado and hundreds of thousands of acres burning in surrounding states, both state and national emergency resources are stretched thin, and the community should use extreme caution regarding fire risks.
According to TCSO, Colorado has almost 49,000 acres currently burning from wildfires, as of the time of this article. This includes a wildfire in Fremont County, near Teller County, and a fire in Custer County, near Pueblo County. Fire units from multiple areas are responding to fight the fires across the state.
Additionally, TCSO noted that New Mexico has over 4,000 acres of wildfires, Arizona has over 20,000 acres burning, and Utah has a devastating total of nearly 200,000 acres on fire. With these totals, any available national assistance is also stretched thin.

TCSO stated that with resources so overburdened, if any new fire that starts in the area and gets out of control, it could be a while before any assistance is received.
