OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Medicare began a federal pilot program that covers the cost of powerful GLP-one weight-loss drugs, such as Wegovy and Zepbound, for eligible older Americans. This new initiative allows participants to access these medications for $50 a month.
This development is significant for seniors managing their weight, as prior Medicare coverage for GLP-1 drugs was limited to individuals with specific health conditions like heart problems or sleep apnea. Under the new federal pilot program, certain Medicare plans now include coverage for obesity. Individuals will still require a doctor’s prescription to obtain the medication.
