DES MOINES, Iowa – The City of Des Moines is asking residents to help shape its fiscal year 2028 budget as officials work to close a projected $12 million budget gap tied to the impacts of the state’s new property tax reform.
City officials say the projected shortfall means millions of dollars will no longer be available to fund public programs. To gather public input, the city has launched an online Fiscal Year 2028 Budget Savings Calculator that allows residents to prioritize potential spending cuts and revenue options.
