Dade County Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents About Rise in Fake Toll Text Scams

The Dade County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be on the lookout for a growing text message scam targeting drivers by claiming they owe unpaid toll fees.

As part of its “Fraud Friday” public awareness campaign, the sheriff’s office says scammers are sending fraudulent text messages pretending to be from Georgia E-ZPass or Peach Pass in an attempt to steal money and personal information.

According to the sheriff’s office, the scam typically begins with a text message claiming the recipient has an outstanding toll balance. The message often threatens additional late fees or even license suspension if payment is not made immediately.
