Tesla Says FSD Was Active in Katy, Texas Fatal Crash as Federal Investigators Review Data and Driver Pedal Input

KATY, TX — Tesla now says its Full Self-Driving system was engaged when a Model 3 left a residential street in Katy and struck a home, killing a 76-year-old woman inside.

The company says the driver pressed the accelerator to 100% and overrode the system before the car hit the brick house.

The Crash

According to Tesla, the vehicle reached 73 mph while the pedal was floored. The company says the input remained down even after impact.

The driver, Michael Butler, told Harris County deputies the car was on Autopilot when it left Rose Hollow Lane and hit the two-story house.
