PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The East Evans Creek Fire in southwest Oregon is polluting the skies over the Cascade Mountains during these hot mid-July days.
Southwest Oregon’s largest fire has now burned over 3,600 acres as of Monday, July 13. The fire, which is only at 5% containment, is sending a large amount of smoke into the atmosphere on Monday evening.
An onshore flow is helping keep the worst of the smoke over central and eastern Oregon and Washington. Much of the Willamette Valley and the greater Portland-Vancouver area is avoiding poor air quality.

Some smoke and haze can be seen over the Cascades from downtown Portland on Monday evening. The smoke, haze, and lower air quality is expected to remain east of the higher elevations of the Cascades this week.
