UM Medicine seeks to construct, renovate hospital facilities in Clinton County

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — University of Michigan Medicine is seeking approval from the university’s Board of Regents to construct and renovate spaces located at the University of Michigan Health–Sparrow Clinton campus.

According to a request for action document submitted to the Board of Regents, Michigan Medicine is seeking approval to construct 19,000 square feet of “hospital space.” Additionally, they are asking permission to renovate 42,000 square feet of hospital and medical offices and build a 22,000-square-foot ambulatory center.

University of Michigan to eliminate Sparrow Health System name

The document, signed by Michigan Medicine CEO David Miller and Interim Executive Vice President Hewlett III, cites “sustained growth in outpatient and inpatient volumes and increasing demand for specialty services” as reasons behind the request for expansion.

The projects would cost an estimated $62,000,000 and would be completed in around 37 months if approved. Funding will be provided through “University of Michigan Health- Sparrow resources,” according to the document…
