Aided by funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Richland County teamed up with community partners this week to provide nourishment and cooling relief for rural residents in Hopkins.
Thanks to the leadership of Limitless Community Development and its “Food for Your Heart” program, more than 5,000 pounds of fresh produce and 44 electric fans were donated during the event. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Project HOPE program also connected with seniors in need of AC window units that will be delivered during home visits.
“Resources oftentimes don’t reach these rural communities” said Sarah Harris, Director of Grants and Community Outreach for Richland County. “So we’re glad to be here – to be able to meet these people where their needs are.”…
