Larchwood moves forward with community center

LARCHWOOD—A new community center moved closer to becoming a reality at Monday’s Larchwood City Council meeting.

The council held a public hearing and then voted to proceed with bonding for the 18,825-square-foot facility, which is expected to cost around $4 million.

Mayor Ken Kerkvliet said the city hopes to bond for about $1 million to complete fundraising for the center. Larchwood has applied for a $1 million Community Attraction and Tourism grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. It will learn in August if it will receive those funds to go along with other money set aside for the center, he said…
