HEAT AND AIR QUALITY CONCERNS
The hottest stretch of the week continues today, and the combination of heat, poor air quality, and the chance for thunderstorms will be the main concerns. If you have outdoor plans, it will be important to stay aware of changing conditions, especially in the afternoon, when heat impacts intensify, and storms become possible.
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY CONTINUES
Today is another First Alert Weather Day because of the ongoing heat and the potential for thunderstorms. It will feel hot and more humid this afternoon, especially across inland areas where temperatures will climb into the upper 90s with some spots near 100 degrees.
The heat will be more noticeable because overnight temperatures have stayed warm, giving many communities less time to recover before another hot afternoon. If you are spending time outside, plan for extra breaks, drink plenty of water, and take care during the hottest part of the day.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through this evening for much of the interior, including the Portland/Vancouver metro area, the Columbia River Gorge, the Willamette Valley, and parts of southwest Washington.
AIR QUALITY CONCERNS CONTINUE
Air quality will also be a concern today. An Air Quality Alert remains in effect through 6 PM due to smoke and ozone impacts, especially for sensitive groups.
If you are sensitive to poor air quality, it will be a good day to limit prolonged outdoor activity during the afternoon and pay attention to how conditions change through the day. Smoke and haze may also affect visibility in some areas.
