I have been reading news of the trials of the “slammers,” who fake car collisions with trucks and then claim injuries and file lawsuits. I notice slammers have undergone surgery for fake injuries. While a couple of lawyers have been named, there has been no identification of the surgeons who carried out the fraudulent surgeries.
It is well known that a plaintiff in a personal injury lawsuit who had surgery for “injuries” caused by an accident can obtain, in a court case, a payout worth up to 10 times more than for the same injury without surgery. The surgeons who rely on plaintiff attorney referrals for most of their practice know that they can receive four to five times more for a plaintiff case than what they would receive from the same procedure for a medical insurance case.
It is hard for a juror to believe that someone would have surgery when they are not truly injured, and even harder to believe that a licensed medical practitioner would carry out a surgical procedure when there is no true injury…
