Rising temperatures pose challenges for classic cars, seniors at Hot August Nights

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – High temperatures are creating challenges for both vintage vehicles and senior attendees at Hot August Nights, as classic cars and their owners contend with extreme heat along downtown Reno’s cruise routes.

Vintage cars lack the advanced cooling and air conditioning systems found in modern vehicles. Mechanical issues, including vapor lock, are affecting drivers on the hot streets. A significant portion of vintage car owners and attendees are seniors, who are highly vulnerable to heat-related illness while sitting in hot metal and chrome next to sizzling asphalt.

The Hot August Nights committee has precautions in place for both participants and spectators, including cool-down lanes for classic cars and volunteers on standby to assist with any issues. Local emergency services also remain on high alert…
