NV Energy installing taller poles after construction blamed for Golden Valley outages

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — NV Energy is installing taller utility poles today after determining construction equipment repeatedly contacted overhead power lines, causing several outages in Golden Valley over the past month.

News 4/Fox 11 have heard from residents in the North Valleys that say that the power has been going off on a regular basis for about three years since the project started and has recently gotten worse.

When the outages began, NV Energy said crews patrolled the area but initially found no connection among the incidents. Some outage notifications consequently listed the cause as unknown, according to the utility.

NV Energy said its continuing investigation found that grading at a nearby construction site had significantly changed the terrain, reducing the space between existing power lines and heavy equipment operating below them…
