Fred Mountain Fire evacuation in Hungry Valley, 8 schools closed

6:35 p.m. Monday update: The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony-Hungry Valley is under evacuation orders as of 6:30 a.m. Monday as the Fred Mountain Fire continues to grow eastward.

5:50 a.m. Monday update: Areas to the south and east of Prospect Hill Road to the northeast of the Fred Mountain Fire were added to evacuation orders overnight Sunday into Monday.

Washoe County School District campuses near the wildfire have canceled classes Monday on what would have been the first day of the 2026-27 school year. Closed campuses include:

  • Alyce Taylor Elementary School
  • Desert Heights Elementary School
  • Jesse Hall Elementary School
  • Lemmon Valley Elementary School
  • Silver Lake Elementary School
  • Spanish Springs Elementary School
  • Shaw Middle School
  • Spanish Springs High School

Evacuation shelters for the fire include:

  • Evelyn Mount Community Center, 1301 Valley Rd.
  • Nevada State Fairgrounds (also known as the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center), 1350 N. Wells Ave. (large animal shelter)
