Navigating San Francisco public transit is tough. Schedules and routes change, and between light rail, buses, cable cars, streetcars and BART, it can be confusing to figure out how to get where you need to go.
One person that it is not confusing for is Da’Von Griffin. If you need to get somewhere on Bay Area transit, Griffin can tell you the best route, all the stops and how long your wait will be — all off the top of his head.
This past weekend at Outside Lands, the 19-year-old stationed himself at the 30th Avenue and Fulton Street bus stop every day, microphone in hand, speaker hooked onto the left side of his backpack, directing transit riders to their next destination.
“I’ve always loved making announcements,” Griffin said. “It helps you find your waypoints and where to go. I always wanted to be the type of person to guide people, show them where to go.” (A waypoint, for those of you who aren’t navigators, is a set of coordinates, like longitude and latitude, that marks a point on a map.)…
