Three former Baton Rouge Police officers were granted qualified immunity Wednesday in federal court for the majority of claims in a lawsuit against them, including strip-searching a 21-year-old at the notorious “BRAVE Cave” warehouse.
But Chief U.S. District Judge Shelly Dick declined to grant one of the former officers immunity on a claim that he kicked the man in his ribs, ruling instead that a jury will decide the issue of potential excessive force.
The former officer accused of kicking Jeremy Lee is Troy Lawrence Jr., who was at the center of many of the BRAVE Cave controversies that rocked Baton Rouge Police in 2023, and whose father was a deputy chief in the department…
