Lab staffing firm to lay off dozens of employees at Richmond’s Altria research building

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A laboratory staffing firm at Altria’s research building in downtown Richmond will lay off dozens of employees this October due to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)’s anticipated acquisition of the building, according to a state filing.

On Monday, Aug. 10, Brandy Alexander, the vice president of human resources at Eurofins Professional Scientific Services, located at 601 E. Jackson St., notified the state that the company would lay off 68 employees by Wednesday, Oct. 9. The layoffs were first reported by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Alexander said the firm recently lost a contract at the site, which led to the shutdown. However, it’s important to note that employees could be rehired by the next contractor. It’s unclear who the new contractor will be…
