Great blue heron rescued from fishing line at SF’s Lake Merced

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A young great blue heron was rescued from Lake Merced by the San Francisco Police Department’s Special Marine Unit on Thursday, after its legs became untangled in a fishing line.

SFPD’s Special Marine Unit was able to get to the great blue heron and hand it off to San Francisco Animal Care & Control (SFACC), who were waiting on shore to get the bird safely into a van.

“The bird had a few abrasions on their legs but appeared in good shape,” said SFACC in a social media post.

SFACC said the bird is resting at its shelter before being checked out by avian experts at the Peninsula Humane Society on Friday…
