AUSTIN (KXAN) — “Our pfavorite four-legged landscapers are baaaaack in Pflugerville!” the city of Pflugerville announced Friday.
More than 400 goats, as well as some sheep, have returned to the city to help clear unwanted vegetation in parks and along community greenbelts.
According to the city, over the next eight weeks, the herd will make its way through Bohls Park, Gilleland Creek Park, Murchison Park, Pfennig Park, Pfluger Park, Swenson Farms Park and the Carmel Greenbelt, typically clearing one to two acres per day.
“These natural lawnmowers are able to access areas that traditional equipment can’t reach, including creek beds, steep slopes and uneven terrain,” the city said. “By grazing on grass, overgrown brush and even poison ivy, the herd helps the City maintain green spaces in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way.”
