Former hospital officials: Owner diverted millions meant for Metro East hospital operations

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (First Alert 4) – A former clinical coordinator at Gateway Regional Medical Center is speaking out for the first time, saying she witnessed financial conditions inside the hospital that left employees without benefits and patients without basic supplies.

The woman, who asked to only be identified as Ashley, left the hospital in the spring of 2025 after she said her health savings account funds were disrupted. She asked that her face not be shown, citing fear of retaliation from her former employer.

“I had health savings account funds taken out of my paycheck,” Ashley said. “They were supposed to be loaded onto my card. I went to the pharmacy to buy my son’s medication, and my card declined.”…
