California city, developer move on new housing plan that defies High-Speed Rail

Lennar Homes, one of the Central Valley’s largest builders, appears unconcerned that it’s planning to build new housing in the approved path of the California High-Speed Rail Authority.

The land is on the east side of Shafter, the same city that last fall told the rail authority that it wished its train would “go around” rather than tear up and divide its downtown area with construction.

In May, the city tentatively approved a Lennar map of more than 1,200 homes that doesn’t acknowledge the rail authority’s plan to acquire land and build train tracks in the same place off Highway 99, called Gossamer Grove…
