Your commute on U.S. 131 in Grand Rapids is about to get easier with this $59M upgrade

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – New flexible traffic lanes are going to be added to a busy stretch of U.S. 131 in Kent County to help alleviate rush-hour congestion.

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to add new flex route lanes on northbound and southbound U.S. 131 from I-96 to Post Drive, with the $59 million construction project scheduled for 2027 and 2028.

The new system will allow the existing shoulders of the highway to be used as additional travel lanes during peak traffic times…
