ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Young people exposed to others’ suicide attempts are more likely to attempt suicide themselves, according to a study published in JAMA.
The study found adolescents and young adults who had someone in their social network attempt suicide had a higher risk of depression and suicide attempts.
Researchers said the findings suggest that looking at whether a young person has been exposed to a suicide attempt in their life could help identify others at risk for taking their own life.
