ST. LOUIS – Back in July 2026, the Missouri Attorney General’s office sent a notice to the owners of the Mark Twain Hotel in downtown St. Louis regarding illegal activity occurring on the property, as well as health and safety concerns inside the building, and demanded that these issues be addressed.
The owners of the Mark Twain decided to close the building for major renovations on Sept. 1st, but that begs the question: What happens to the people who live there?
“Most of the people living inside the Mark Twain, at least a large majority of them, they’re week to week, right? So, they’re paycheck to paycheck, and there’s not a place for these individuals to go,” said Anthony D’Agostino, CEO of Peter & Paul Community Services. He says his organization is helping to relocate about half of the 168 individuals being forced out of the Mark Twain, who must be gone by Sept. 1st.
