Spokane area workers stage walkout over contract dispute

SPOKANE, Wash. — Thousands of Washington state public employees walked out today including workers at Lakeland Village, Eastern State Hospital and State Operated Living Alternatives in Spokane County.

The Washington Federation of State Employees, which represents about 52,000 members across state agencies, community colleges, and healthcare facilities, said proposed compensation packages are failing to keep pace with inflation and rising living costs.
