Spokane police warn fire victims to watch for rebuilding scams

SPOKANE, Wash. — As residents begin the long process of rebuilding after recent fires, the Spokane Police Department is cautioning homeowners to thoroughly vet anyone they hire to help clean up and reconstruct their properties.

While no confirmed cases of scams have emerged in the aftermath of the fires, police officials say it’s essential for residents to stay alert.

“Be on the lookout for any type of scams or people coming into town to make a quick dollar,” said Tricia Leming, public information officer for the Spokane Police Department. “If you see any suspicious activity, like people showing up door to door, give us a call, give crime check a call and we’ll show up and investigate.”…
