LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Citizens have filed proposed recall language against Mason Mayor Russell Whipple for a second time.
The language has to be reviewed for clarity and factual accuracy before those seeking to recall Whipple can start circulating the petition. The language is set to be reviewed Sept. 18 by the Ingham County Election Commission, county clerk Barb Byrum confirmed with 6 News via text.
A similar attempt to recall Whipple occurred this summer. However, the petitions were tossed because there was an error in the language on the petitions circulated when compared to the language approved by the election commission.
Residents want to recall Whipple over his role in drafting a zoning ordinance to restrict and limit what data centers can do, their appearance and noise level and other regulatory issues. An earlier proposed petition was rejected but cited an instance where he voted against an amendment requiring data centers to be solely responsible for environmental cleanup.
