Hyper Energy Bar is coming to downtown Des Moines after the City Council approved the company’s purchase of a parcel of land at 100 SW 11th St., just seven minutes away from Drake University.
Chris Whalen, co-founder and CEO of Hyper, said that approval came after two years of work. The Des Moines City Council overrode a 5-5 deadlock in the city’s plan and zoning commission, which fell short of the majority needed to approve the sale of the land. The commission had raised concerns because the plan didn’t fit with the city’s walkability goals.
“We’re just really excited to be closer to the core, providing for the central core of Des Moines and Drake and all the high schools down there, and employees that work downtown,” Whalen said. “I think it’s a great location, and I’m delighted they saw the vision.”…
