HOWARD, Wis. (WBAY) — The Village of Howard is building a new fire station on Shawano Avenue. Crews are set to break ground at 10 a.m. Wednesday, starting construction on a project approved in April.
The project is an effort to improve the fire department’s response times during emergencies on the village’s west side.
Response times prompt new station
Fire Chief Dennis Staeven said it currently takes roughly 12 minutes to reach an emergency in the western portion of the village.
“We do have an unmanned station out there, but we don’t have living quarters,” Staeven said.
National standard is 4 to 5 minutes
