SF School District considers closing elementary school

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– Renberg Elementary sits along 258th Street near Renner. And compared with most Sioux Falls elementary schools, it really is small. The school currently lists an enrollment of 83 students, half of what it was in the 2023 – 24 school year.

But as Sioux Falls has grown — and the school district has opened new buildings — the question has become whether it still makes sense to keep Renberg open.

“Last year we had gone through and worked with the families, to talk with the families and the school board about the possibility of closing Renberg, you know, financial costs, opportunities for students to be involved in larger programs with the band and choirs and art, other opportunities that are afforded at Marcella LeBeau,” said Nold.

Lincoln County board squabbles at Tuesday meeting

Closing Renberg could save an estimated 500 to 700,000 dollars.Assistant Superintendent Dan Conrad brought school board members up to date.He said if Renberg were to close, the students could move to either Marcella LeBeau or Laura B. Anderson Elementary. Students would also have access to an exclusive STEM room at Marcella LeBeau. Administrators plan to meet with parents on October 28th to listen and communicate possible options…
